My story in Utica Community Schools began 40 years ago when my husband and I moved to this community because we were looking for the best school district for our children. I started out as a volunteer - eventually working for the district and retiring as an administrator - and now am back where I started: offering my time in our classrooms. I have gone full circle.

I feel very strongly that education is the most important thing that will impact the life of children. The adage "It Takes  a Village to Raise a Child" is very important in our communities. There are so many children that need that little extra something so that the light bulb will go on for them.

I have stayed involved because our children need us. Children feel special when they see someone's grandmother in the classroom. It makes them feel as if they are part of the family. To me, that is what Utica Community Schools is - a family. And good family members look out for one another.

Utica Community Schools is one of the premier school districts in the State of Michigan. There is so much that we have to offer to families and I have personally benefited from the strength of our school district. I have three children who have been successful because of Utica Community Schools. Our staff and administration always seem to anticipate when a challenge will arrive and meets it head on. Consequently, I think the future of UCS is going to be fantastic - just as it has always been.
